New Delhi, May 22 (PTI) The Delhi BJP conducted the “pol khol” campaign across the city on Sunday, reaching out to people and “exposing” the alleged failures of the AAP government in providing clean drinking water, other civic amenities and controlling pollution.

Led by Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, the saffron party highlighted the Arvind Kejriwal government’s “unkept promises and tall claims” at all polling booths in 278 mandals (municipal wards).

“Instead of providing clean water, Kejriwal is offering cheap liquor to Delhiites. In the name of fighting pollution, he is making youngsters stand on the roads holding placards, instead of giving them proper jobs,” Gupta charged.

He said nothing could be expected from a government that could not even provide clean drinking water in seven years.

Union minister Meenakshi Lekhi said Kejriwal’s development is “confined to hoardings and posters, with everything looking hollow at the ground level”.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said ever since the AAP government came to power, the entire system in Delhi has got “destroyed”.

“Electricity, education, health, water supply — everything is worsening by the day. Even the Delhi Jal Board, which was once in profit, is now neck deep in losses with a debt of Rs 2,000 crore annually,” he said.

No immediate reaction was available from the Delhi government or the AAP to the allegations levelled by the BJP leaders.

BJP MPs Ramesh Bidhuri, Parvesh Sahib Singh and Hans Raj Hans took part in the campaign at Mehrauli, Vikaspuri in Najafgarh and Rohini in northwest Delhi respectively.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been slamming each other over a host of issues in the national capital for the last few months. These two parties are the main contenders for the civic body polls that have been delayed, with the Centre unifying the three municipal corporations of Delhi from Sunday.

The BJP has been ruling the south, east and north municipal corporations since 2012. The civic polls were due in April but the unification of the municipal corporations has delayed it by several months. PTI VIT RC
