New Delhi: Journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi, who has been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for espionage, has over three decades of experience in reporting and writing on defence.

According to the official website of the news website ‘Defense News’ — an American defence news website that also covers politics, business and technology — Raghuvanshi is their India correspondent for defence news.

The last news story written by Raghuvanshi is from 12 days ago on how India and Russia agreed to resolve issues over delayed payments regarding defence contracts.

His second last story is on the Indian defence ministry buying two different types of missile systems and warships, published on 8 April.

On 1 April, another article by Raghuvanshi was titled — “India thinks big on military exports to Africa, Tejas jets, Akash missiles, combat helicopters on radar” for news website “India Narrative”.

His only other article for this website was in February on how India is all set to become a manufacturing hub for artillery ammunition.

Raghuvanshi has been accused by the CBI of collecting sensitive information related to India’s defence projects, future procurement by the armed forces and sharing this information with foreign nations.

The central probe agency conducted searches across 12 locations, including Delhi NCR and Jaipur, in connection with the case. The agency has claimed that incriminating documents were seized from these raids.

As per his Linkedin profile, Raghuvanshi is the India Bureau Chief of “Defense News”. He has worked with the news publication at least since 2015, as seen by links to articles shared by him on Twitter. However, his Twitter account hasn’t been active since 2018.

People who know Raghuvanshi have also said he claimed to be working with a German multinational investment bank as its India investment consultant.

Freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma was also arrested in 2020 for allegedly passing on “sensitive information” to Chinese intelligence agencies. The Enforcement Directorate had also attached Rs 48-lakh assets of Sharma.
