New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited launched a rapid cargo parcel service on Tuesday on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor to connect major logistics hubs across the NCR and Northern India with industrial centres in Gujarat.
Dr. Manoj Singh, Member (Operations and Business Development), Railway Board, flagged off the train in the presence of senior officials from DFCCIL and the Railway Ministry.
Highlighting the benefits, officials stated that, till now, the existing parcel service through NMGHS (New Modified Goods High Speed) wagons had primarily catered to destinations up to Ahmedabad.
They added that, with the introduction of the Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) on the DFC, parcel traffic can now be carried beyond the Ahmedabad region, enabling Surat and Mumbai-bound parcels to be transported through the service and further connected to their destinations.
“It marks an important step towards strengthening rail-based logistics and providing faster, reliable and efficient transportation solutions for parcel movement between New Dadri station in Uttar Pradesh and New Ancheli station on the DFC in Gujarat,” DFCCIL said in a press note.
The launch marks a “significant milestone” in the development of “time-sensitive, customer-oriented rail logistics, especially for the e-commerce and FMCG sectors”, it added.
The service commenced from New Dadri station on August 18, 2026, while the return/down-direction service from New Ancheli station will commence on August 20, 2026.
Officials said that the service will cover an approximate distance of 1,200 km one way and operate between New Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and New Ancheli in Gujarat, with intermediate loading and unloading at New Motidau station in Gujarat.
The scheduled transit time is approximately 23 hours, providing a rail-based logistics solution between the northern and western regions.
“JPP-RCS provides an integrated rail-and-road logistics solution, covering the complete movement of goods from origin to destination. The service includes collection of goods from customers by aggregators, loading and unloading of goods, rail transportation as per a fixed timetable, delivery to the end customer by aggregators, and integration of rail and road transportation for seamless logistics,” DFCCIL said.
The service is expected to generate approximately Rs 21 lakh per round trip, translating into an annual revenue potential of approximately Rs 76 crore with regular operations, it added.
The booking of parcel space is facilitated through the Virtual Aggregation Platform (VAP) of the Freight Business Development (FBD) portal, providing a transparent and convenient digital interface. Online bookings can be made up to 180 days in advance.
The system also enables integration with aggregator websites, digital booking and tracking, and better planning of logistics requirements.
Speaking about the environmental benefits, DFCCIL said that JPP-RCS offers a more sustainable alternative for long-distance parcel movement by shifting suitable traffic from road to rail.
“Road freight is a major contributor to India’s petroleum consumption and oil-import dependence. Although trucks account for only around 3 per cent of the country’s vehicle fleet, they contribute disproportionately to transport emissions, accounting for nearly 34 per cent of transport-related CO2 emissions and 53 per cent of particulate matter emissions,” officials said.
