Jaipur, Oct 6 (PTI) A constable was seriously injured after the driver of a tractor-trolley allegedly carrying illegally mined sand tried to crush him in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur on Tuesday, police said.

An 85-year-old woman was also injured in the incident, they said.

The incident occurred around 9 am on Bhedola Road when a police patrol team was returning and tried to stop a suspected tractor-trolley coming from the Chauth Ka Barwara side, SHO Ajit Kumar said.

Constable Surendra Singh signalled the driver to stop, but the driver allegedly accelerated and hit him. A wheel of the tractor-trolley ran over the constable’s leg, seriously injuring him, the SHO said.

The vehicle also hit 85-year-old Jumi, who was passing by carrying fodder, he said.

Both were taken to the Chauth Ka Barwara community health centre. After first aid, Singh was shifted to the district hospital and later referred to Jaipur in view of his serious condition.

The driver fled with the vehicle and a search is underway, police said. A case has been registered over the alleged attempt to run over the constable and illegal mining and transportation of sand, they said. PTI AG APL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
