Ranchi, Oct 7 (PTI) Hundreds of Congress workers staged a demonstration in Ranchi on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The protesters marched from the Congress office to the District Collectorate, where they burnt an effigy of Kumar and raised slogans against him.
Some Congress workers dressed themselves as “ghost voters”, wearing white cloth, alleging that their names had been deleted from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
“We are searching for Gyanesh Kumar, and when we find him, we will make him a ghost, just as he declared crores of citizens of this country ‘ghosts’ through the SIR exercise,” the party’s Ranchi president Kumar Raja told reporters.
He said the Congress would continue its agitation to “save democracy, the Constitution and the values of this country”. PTI RPS RPS SOM
