Bengaluru, Oct 24 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has granted sanction to prosecute suspended IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar in a case linked to alleged irregularities in the KPSC recruitment process, his office said on Saturday.

Gangwar was suspended by the state government in September over allegations linked to the recruitment process.

“I have examined the file and the documents contained therein in connection with the corruption case against Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, IAS. I have ordered the grant of sanction for prosecution under Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023,” Shivakumar said in his order.

Gangwar is currently in judicial custody. The Criminal Investigation Department is probing the alleged irregularities, while the Enforcement Directorate is conducting a separate investigation.

The CID arrested Gangwar on August 29 in connection with alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission recruitment examination for veterinary officers. He had served as the commission’s Controller of Examinations from February 2024 to March 2026.

A 2016-batch IAS officer, Gangwar was serving as Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Department of Industries and Commerce when he was arrested.

The CID is investigating alleged irregularities in the examination, including the handling of records and OMR sheets, and the role of officials and other persons.

Days before his arrest, Gangwar’s whereabouts became a subject of controversy after he was reportedly untraceable following ED searches linked to the alleged recruitment irregularities.

The ED is investigating the case under Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, which deal with the offence of money laundering and its punishment, respectively.

CID sources recently said the investigation had uncovered alleged links between candidates, middlemen and Gangwar.

The ED has alleged that Gangwar facilitated the leakage of the veterinary officers’ recruitment examination question paper to a middleman a day before the test in exchange for illegal gratification.

The agency has also alleged that candidates paid Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh to obtain the leaked question paper. PTI KSU SSK
