New Delhi: The Rajasthan Police have arrested two 19-year-old boys, Sameer and Gulam, and detained a 15-year-old minor for the alleged gangrape and murder of a Class 10 girl.

The girl, 15, went missing on Sunday night from the Sikar village where she was staying with her maternal grandparents. The grandfather filed a complaint with the police the next day, accusing the three of abducting the minor girl.

The cops mounted a search and found her body in a well, which was situated at the centre of the Sikar village. Superintendent of Police, Sikar, Ali Paris Deshmukh, said the girl’s body was found on Monday afternoon. It was sent to a mortuary at the government hospital.

In a statement to TOI, an official said, “The body of the deceased minor was identified. Due to concerns of rape and murder, relevant sections of the law were added to the case, and further investigation was initiated.”

According to another police official, the accused were identified through CCTV footage outside the victim’s home. The 15-year-old minor in custody is the main accused, the police said. He has been detained while the other two have been arrested.

The case has sparked political outrage in Rajasthan, which goes to polls later this year. Former BJP MLA Nand Kishore Maharia and other party leaders have staged protests, targetting the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government.

At a sit-in, the state’s Opposition leaders demanded justice and financial assistance for the victim’s family.

State BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, “…gruesome incidents of taking out dead bodies of our daughters from wells… have become common in Congress’s Jungle Raj.”
