Kurukshetra, Sep 20 (PTI) The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Sunday arrested a CID inspector while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
According to the ACB, the accused, Inspector Rajesh Kumar, posted with Haryana CID, had allegedly demanded money from a transporter in return for allowing vehicles carrying mining material to operate without obstruction between Yamunanagar and Karnal.
The complainant alleged that the inspector initially demanded Rs 10,000 per vehicle per month. On September 19, he allegedly agreed to accept around Rs 7,000 per vehicle for around 70 vehicles, fixing the monthly amount at Rs 5 lakh.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap in the presence of a gazetted officer and a shadow witness, officials said, adding that the inspector was caught allegedly accepting Rs 5 lakh at Umri Chowk in Kurukshetra.
Police registered an FIR against the accused under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials said they followed the prescribed procedures under the BNS, 2023 during the operation, which was conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer and a shadow witness.
Kurukshetra State Vigilance ACB In-Charge Inspector Harjinder Singh said the accused has been arrested and will be produced before a court for remand.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
