Patna, Apr 27 (PTI) Union minister Chirag Paswan on Monday urged the Samrat Choudhary government in Bihar to ensure “alternative” arrangements for poor people whose homes may have to be demolished as part of anti-encroachment drives.
The Hajipur MP, who briefly interacted with journalists here, also expressed hope that “no injustice” would be done to those who could prove lawful ownership of the piece of land on which their properties were erected.
“The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) hopes that poor people are not made to suffer under encroachment drives. They should first be provided an alternative space before action is taken by the government in accordance with law”, said the NDA partner, whose views were sought on the “bulldozer action” which has gathered momentum since a BJP-led government was formed in the state earlier this month.
He also said, “No injustice should be done to those who happen to be lawful owners of the piece of land in question”.
Opposition parties like the RJD and the CPI(ML) Liberation have been alleging that Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the first BJP leader to head a government in Bihar, was drawing inspiration from his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath’s “bulldozer raj”.
However, Choudhary has asserted that tough measures were required to build a “beautiful and prosperous Bihar”, claiming “even stairs leading to my own house have been demolished” as part of an anti-encroachment drive. PTI NAC MNB
