Raipur, Sep 8 (PTI) In a massive display of celebration, Chhattisgarh will illuminate 36 lakh lamps across the BJP-ruled state on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday and his 25 years of service in constitutional office.
This was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma on Tuesday while addressing a press conference at the state BJP office in Raipur.
He said a month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ would be organised from September 17 to October 17 to mark Modi completing 25 years in constitutional office — first as chief minister (of Gujarat from from October 2001 to May 2014) and then as Prime Minister.
The campaign would not merely be an event, but would seek to develop into a mass movement centred on service, dedication and nation-building, with active participation of people from villages, cities, polling booths and families, he maintained.
“On September 17, as many as 36 lakh ‘blessing lamps’ will be lit across Chhattisgarh for the long, healthy and energetic life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Sharma said.
A target has been set to light at least 100 lamps at every polling booth in the state. Families at each booth would participate in the lamp-lighting programme to express gratitude for Modi’s 25 years of public service and dedication and take a pledge to contribute towards the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, he stated.
As part of the campaign, a special torch would be installed at prominent intersections in every district headquarters on October 7, he said.
Large LED screens would be installed at major public places on October 7, the day Modi completes 25 years as the head of a government, through which the prime minister would address all district headquarters simultaneously, Sharma informed.
He said a special youth procession, to be taken out from Modi’s birthplace Vadnagar in Gujarat to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, would pass through several states and enter Chhattisgarh through areas, including Kawardha and Koriya.
From September 17 to October 17, the ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’ campaign would encourage BJP workers as well as common citizens to participate in administrative and social service activities, Sharma said.
According to the Deputy CM, a ‘Seva Ke Rang’ competition would be organised at public places, major institutions and homes, with rangolis (a traditional Hindu decoration on floor or other flat surface) and exhibitions showcasing development works and the spirit of service over the past 25 years.
A nationwide drawing and speech competition would be held for students of government and private schools, focusing on the service initiatives of the Modi government and the concept of a developed India, he stated.
Under the ‘Namo Seva Gatha’ programme, the government’s service initiatives and welfare schemes of the past 25 years would be presented through music and simple theatrical performances at schools, colleges, panchayats and community centres, Sharma said.
He said 25 major service activities would be identified under the ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’ campaign, from which citizens could voluntarily choose any one activity and undertake visible improvements or a “face-lifting” of public spaces in their areas.
At least two major locations in every Assembly constituency in Chhattisgarh would be selected for visible transformation under the initiative, he said.
Under the ‘Seva Setu’ campaign, service centres and camps would be organised at block and Assembly segment levels, where citizens would be provided on-the-spot access to various Central and state government welfare schemes at a single location.
According to Sharma, the month-long campaign would seek to ensure broad participation of people in activities related to service, social welfare and nation-building across Chhattisgarh. PTI TKP RSY
