Panaji, May 25 (PTI) The Central government has sanctioned Rs 1,880.11 crore for the four-laning of the Cuncolim-Bendordem stretch of NH-66 in south Goa, including bypasses for Cuncolim and Balli towns, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday.

In a post on X, Sawant described the approval as a “landmark moment” for Goa’s infrastructure, stating that the project will help decongest urban areas, ease daily commutes and boost economic growth in the southern part of the state.

The chief minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

According to the details shared, the key highlight includes a 5.78-km six-lane elevated corridor, a six-lane railway overbridge (ROB), and the development of service roads, junctions and pedestrian safety infrastructure.

Sawant said the bypasses planned for Cuncolim and Balli will divert traffic away from town centres, reducing congestion and improving travel time along the busy national highway corridor.

He added that the project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and support the region’s economic development, particularly in south Goa.

The chief minister said the approval reflects the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening infrastructure in Goa under the “double-engine government” model. PTI RPS NSK
