Jammu, Sep 4 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Congress working president Tara Chand on Friday alleged that both the Centre and the Union territory’s government have failed to fulfil promises made to people during elections.
Addressing a public meeting at Pargwal in the Akhnoor assembly constituency, the former deputy chief minister highlighted issues of poor roads, incomplete infrastructure projects, flood losses, unemployment and rising prices.
He said the common people were facing serious difficulties while the governments had failed to provide adequate relief.
Referring to last year’s floods, the Congress leader said extensive damage was caused to infrastructure and several families were affected, but adequate compensation had not reached all victims.
He demanded a fresh assessment of the losses and timely disbursal of compensation to all those affected.
Chand said the foundation stone of the Pargwal-Indri bridge was laid nearly 12 years ago, but the project remained incomplete.
He urged the government to complete the bridge on priority to improve connectivity in the border area.
He also flagged “difficulties” faced by people in obtaining ration cards and new pensions, saying the poor and the elderly should not be made to repeatedly visit government offices to access basic welfare benefits.
“Inflation has broken the back of the common man. Those who sought votes in the name of controlling inflation have today put an additional burden on people,” he said. PTI AB DIV DIV
