New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) The CBI has arrested Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Deputy Director Sushil Kumar Garg, posted in Chennai, for allegedly taking Rs 2.5 lakh bribe for issuing airworthiness certificate to aircraft operated by a private company, officials said Sunday.

The agency also arrested the Director of Ekvi Air Training Organisation Pvt Ltd, Sachin Keshav Bhane, for giving bribe to the officer, they said.

The CBI action followed registration of a case against Deputy Director (Airworthiness) Garg, Ekvi Air Training Organisation Director Bhane, the company, and others in relation to alleged demand and acceptance of illegal gratification, sources said.

Garg had allegedly demanded the bribe for issuing airworthiness certification in favour of aircraft operated by the company, they said.

The agency had received inputs about the alleged bribe demand following which an FIR was registered and a raid was conducted, they said.

According to the officials, Garg had accepted the Rs 2.5 lakh bribe following which he and Bhane were arrested.

The agency will move the court seeking transit remand of the accused officer to bring him to the national capital for questioning, they said.
