Ranchi, Oct 3 (PTI) The mortal remains of two Jharkhand-based yoga instructors, who were killed in a road accident in Vietnam, arrived in the state on Saturday, an official said.

The bodies arrived in Kolkata around 1 pm and were then transported to Jharkhand by two ambulances provided by the state government, Jharkhand Migration Cell team head Sikha Lakra said.

The bodies arrived in Jharkhand on Saturday evening, Lakra told PTI.

“Acting swiftly in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directives, the State Migrant Control Room coordinated continuously with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy to arrange for the mortal remains to be transported to Jharkhand,” an official statement said.

On the CM’s instructions, the Labour Department will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of each deceased under the Chief Minister Jharkhand International Migrant Worker Grant Scheme, it said.

Earlier, bodies were expected to arrive in Kolkata by Tuesday night, but the plan was changed due to some issues.

Raja Kumar (24) from Ranchi and Vinay Kumar Rai (25) from Jamshedpur had been teaching yoga at Adi Yoga Academy in Vietnam’s Da Lat city. They died on September 25 after their two-wheeler collided with a car, the official said.

The families had expressed inability to bring back the bodies due to their financial condition.

Friends of the deceased and members of the Indian community in Vietnam pooled funds to meet the expenses for sending the bodies, family members said.

Raja’s father Umesh Verma, an electrician, said his son had been supporting the family by working in Vietnam.

“On September 25, we got information that my son died in an accident. He had last visited Ranchi two to three months back. We wanted his mortal remains to be brought back at the earliest,” Verma had told reporters on Wednesday.

Vinay’s father Ramesh Rai said they would perform the last rites of his son on Sunday.

He said Vinay’s friends and Indians in Vietnam had pooled funds to bring back the body.

Vinay had gone to Vietnam around two years ago, his father said. PTI SAN BDC NN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
