New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The BJP on Friday rejected as a “lie” Rahul Gandhi’s claim that Home Minister Amit Shah is trying to stop people from coming to Delhi for the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally here and asked the Congress leader to stop misleading people by spreading falsehood.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also demanded that Gandhi show proof of his allegation.

The BJP’s response came after Gandhi alleged that the home minister is “trying his best” to stop people from coming into Delhi to participate in INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally here.

Addressing a press conference here, the leader of opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha said the INDIA bloc’s “Chalo Dilli” march and rally here in Ramlila Maidan will be held on Sunday.

“Our party people and common people are being stopped. You watch what happens at Ramlila Maidan and you will understand what is happening in the country. There is huge anger and emotional pain because millions are being disenfranchised,” he said.

Hitting back, Patra said Gandhi’s claim that the Centre and the home minister are stopping people from coming into Delhi from various states is a “lie”.

“Who has been stopped? Who stopped whom and where? Show proof,” the BJP spokesperson demanded and asked Gandhi to “stop spreading falsehood and mislead the country”.

“People have not been stopped anywhere,” he asserted, and asked Gandhi to “stop spreading falsehood and mislead the country”.

Patra claimed that the INDIA bloc had to postpone “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, which was scheduled on Friday, to October 31 because they failed to make proper “arrangements” for the event.

“There is a lack of unity among the opposition parties. They also lack organisational capability. It’s because of this, perhaps, they had to defer the mock parliament,” the BJP MP added.

“This is the reason why Rahul Gandhi has levelled a false allegation that the home minister is stopping people from coming into Delhi from various states,” he added.

Patra also slammed the Samajwadi Party (SP) for alleging “rigging” during the just-concluded MLC polls in Uttar Pradesh, asking the opposition party why it is celebrating its victory on five seats when the polls were rigged according to them.

“The Samajwadi Party should first hold a meeting and decide whether there was rigging in the polls or their victory in the polls. If there was rigging, then stop celebrating and file a complaint,” the BJP added.

Patra alleged that from hosting a mock parliament to calling people for a march on alleged “vote chori”, the Congress and other opposition parties are making all-out efforts to “somehow vitiate the atmosphere” because they know very well that they cannot win elections “in a fair manner”.

“So spread anarchy and try for regime change at any cost. But, people will give them a fitting response at the right time,” he added.

Patra also took a swipe at the INDIA bloc over its leaders asserting unity among them, saying all these “dynastic parties” come together and pose for a group picture holding each other’s hands and playing a “drama of solidarity” ahead of the elections but “deep inside they curse each other and think who will get how many seats”.

“We have seen such pictures in the past as well. They pose for the camera holding their hands up in the air as if they are global leaders and they are set to participate in a UN summit on nuclear power. I call such an image a ‘haath pakdi photo’,” the BJP leader said.

“Nothing is going to happen with such pictures. Take it from me.

“There is going to be a messy squabble over seat-sharing when the elections come closer. Eventually, they will end up contesting the polls as a friendly match,” Patra said in an apparent dig at the Congress and its allies. PTI PK PK KSS
