Mumbai/Thane, Apr 27 (PTI) BJP MLA Narendra Mehta on Monday alleged that Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, who belongs to the Shiv Sena, and his supporters grabbed a portion of land belonging to a local family in Mira-Bhayander area of Thane district.
He has submitted a complaint to the police seeking an investigation.
Sarnaik has yet to respond to Mehta’s allegations.
Mehta claimed he visited Kasarvadavali police station in Thane along with party workers, corporators and local representatives following a complaint by a family from Bhaindarpada, alleging that around 1,219 square metres of their land had been encroached upon.
He also claimed to have inspected the site in Kasarvadavali and urged the police to ensure justice for the affected family through a thorough investigation.
Mehta told reporters that he has lodged a formal complaint with the police demanding an investigation into the “encroachment” on the Bhoomiputras’ property.
A Kasarwadavali police station officer confirmed that the complaint has been received and they are looking into it.
The political rivalry between Mehta and Sarnak is not new, and both leaders have traded barbs in the past.
Mehta had earlier accused Sarnaik of indulging in corruption, who reacted by accusing the BJP MLA of fuelling divisions in Mira-Bhayander over linguistic issues.
Earlier, during a public grievance forum, Sarnaik had claimed that several complaints had been received against Mehta regarding alleged land-related issues and that an inquiry cell would be set up to examine them. PTI ND COR NSK
