BJP govt trying to ‘finish off’ Mumbai international airport: Aaditya Thackeray

Mumbai, Oct 4 (PTI) Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has alleged that the “BJP-led regime” is trying to “finish off” Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and end the city’s ability to connect with the world.

He was reacting to a news report on airlines purportedly pushing back against Mumbai International Airport Ltd’s (MIAL’s) proposed 33 per cent cut in international departure slots at T2 (Terminal 2), citing existing winter schedule commitments and lack of meaningful consultation.

In a post on X on Saturday, Thackeray said the BJP regime that ushered in India’s “Lost Decade” had seen a lot of companies, manufacturers and even the International Financial Services Centre be forced out of Mumbai.

This also had an adverse impact on India’s economy at large, he added.

Now by finishing off our airport, the BJP intends to finish Mumbai’s ability to connect with the world, intentionally, he added.

“The DB Patil International Airport in Navi Mumbai is supposed to be a +1 airport, not a way to simply push passengers to discomfort and fleece them-kind of an airport. Who is this loot being facilitated for?” Thackeray said. PTI PR NSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
