Chennai, May 4 (PTI) Tamil Nadu former BJP president K Annamalai on Monday hailed the “generational shift” in the state’s political landscape following the 2026 Assembly election results, congratulating actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party TVK on a “spectacular debut”.
In a statement posted on ‘X’, he said the verdict reflected a clear public mandate against established political norms.
“I bow down to the people of TN for your verdict. Happy to see in my land, people have risen in one voice and spoken — no to buying of votes, no to dynastic politics,” Annamalai said.
The BJP leader, who has consistently campaigned against the Dravidian majors, noted that the state was ready for a new era. “Whoever gets it done has actually done a favour to all!” he remarked, referring to the shift away from traditional power structures.
Extending his wishes to the TVK chief, Annamalai wrote: “Congrats and best wishes to TVK & Thiru @TVKVijayHQ avl for a spectacular debut in TN politics. Let Almighty be with you to do what you intend to do.” While acknowledging the hard-fought battle by National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates, the BJP leader offered words of encouragement to those who did not emerge victorious. “Congrats to all those who won, and for those who couldn’t register a victory this time, let’s keep fighting,” he stated.
Annamalai also reached out to the outgoing administration and other rivals, offering “commiserations” to DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin as well as NTK leader Seeman for their electoral losses.
He thanked the BJP cadres for “toiling hard on the ground,” adding, “Better times will come soon!” The 2026 Assembly election has seen a significant disruption in Tamil Nadu’s traditional bipolar politics, with TVK emerging as a formidable force, challenging the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
