Bikaner, Sep 4 (PTI) Police said on Friday that a case was registered in Bikaner’s Ward 50 over the alleged forgery and misuse of a Congress election symbol authorisation amid a dispute over the party’s candidate for the civic polls.
Deepak Arora, father of Mohit Arora, lodged the FIR at Sadar police station. He alleged that the Congress finalised his son’s name as the party’s candidate and prepared the symbol authorisation in his name.
The development came after the Aroras were suspended from the party for allegedly assaulting Congress city president Madan Gopal Meghwal on September 2 over allegations of irregularities.
Deepak alleged that the authorisation was subsequently changed through a conspiracy to benefit Navratan Daga, who filed his nomination as the Congress candidate from Ward 50.
Sadar Station House Officer Ramesh Kumar said a case was registered against Bikaner city Congress president Madan Gopal Meghwal, rural Congress president Bishnaram Siyag and Daga on the Aroras’ complaint.
The SHO said the complainant accused the leaders of forgery and using an allegedly forged document relating to the party symbol for the nomination.
Deepak claimed that after discussions with party observers, his family was informed that Mohit’s candidature had been finalised. He said preparations for filing his nomination were made accordingly and campaigning had also begun.
Meghwal said he had not yet studied the FIR and would respond to the allegations only after reviewing it.
He said police would investigate the matter.
Polling for the 309 urban local bodies will be held in two phases on September 9 and 11. The elections cover 10,245 councillor posts across 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils and 248 municipalities. Counting of votes for the councillor posts is scheduled for September 4.
