Samastipur, Oct 6 (PTI) A mute youth of Bihar’s Samastipur district, allegedly kidnapped four years ago and presumed dead by his family members, was found in Noida in Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday.

The exact sequence of events of how the man, a resident of Lalpur village under Rosera police station area, was kidnapped and reached Noida is expected to be known after a sign language expert interacts with him.

Rosera SDPO Sanjay Kumar Sinha said, “A case of kidnapping of a mute youth was registered four years ago. The youth was reportedly found in Noida and brought before us by the family members on Sunday.”

He said the police have obtained permission from a competent court to appoint a specialist capable of understanding sign language and expressions to record the statement of the youth.

“After the appointment of the specialist, his statement under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita will be recorded,” Sinha said.

That section empowers a magistrate to record confessions or statements during an investigation before an inquiry or trial begins.

The police officer said the exact sequence of events can be ascertained only after the statement of the youth is recorded.

The youth went missing in 2022, prompting his family members to lodge a complaint against several individuals for whom the boy used to work. The family members had presumed that he was no more.

According to officials, the youth was spotted at a fruit shop in Noida on October 2 by a fellow villager who informed the family members of the youth back home and helped his return to Lalpur.

The police did not confirm the identity of the youth or divulge other details of the four-year-old case. PTI SUK NN

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
