New Delhi: The house help who attacked and killed Jammu and Kashmir’s director general (prisons) Hemant Lohia was “unstable” and had a history of aggression, the police have said.

The suspect Yasir Ahmed, 36, was caught Tuesday after a major manhunt was launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police overnight. Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said Ahmed was being interrogated.

Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh on Tuesday visited the house where 57-year-old Lohia was killed last night. There were burn injuries on his body, and his throat was slit.

Singh said: “Lohia was staying at his friend’s house for the last few days. After dinner, he went to his room. The domestic helper was inside the room already.

“He latched the door from inside and attacked Lohia several times with a sharp weapon. He also tried to suffocate him. The accused, as per history, is an aggressive, unstable person.”

Meanwhile, Ahmed was depressed and fixated on death, a report has said.

The report quoted from Ahmed’s personal diary: “Dear death, come into my life,” reads one. Another says: “I’m sorry I am having (a) bad day, week, month, year, life.”

The man from Ramban had also noted down Hindi songs in his diary. One was titled “Bhula dena mujhe (Forget me).”

Shorter notes say: “I hate my life”, “Life is just grief”, “Love 0%, Tension 90%, Sad 99%, Fake Smile 100%”.

One has a drawing of a phone battery running out, and is labelled, “My Life 1%”.

Another note titled “Life” reads: “Mai jasi life je raha hoon, mujhe us sa koi problem nahi hai… Problem is baat se hai, aagay hamara kaya hoga (I have no problem with the life I’m leading; but what will happen in future?).”

Hemant Kumar Lohia, a 1992-batch officer, was promoted to DG (Prisons) in August this year.

A terror group called People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), has allegedly claimed responsibility for the murder that took place during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the Union Territory.
