Shimla, Oct 15 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday said that the life and legacy of former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal reminds society of its responsibility to preserve India’s rich cultural heritage.

Speaking at a programme to mark the birth centenary year of Singhal at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla, the governor described the late VHP leader’s life as an inspiring example of dedication to Indian culture, Sanatan traditions and the cultural consciousness of the Hindu community.

Gupta said Singhal devoted his life to preserving Indian culture, organising Hindu society and fostering pride in the country’s ancient traditions.

“His life reminds us that a nation’s true strength lies not only in its economic and material achievements but also in its cultural consciousness, moral values and confidence in its heritage,” he said.

Gupta emphasised the enduring relevance of Sanatan culture and said that it is a comprehensive vision of understanding and living life. “Noble ideals such as Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam express the essence of Indian culture, which aspires for the welfare of all humanity.”

He further said that Singhal consistently worked to bring cultural awareness into wider public discourse, promote understanding of traditional values and connect people with their civilisational identity. PTI COR SKY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
