Ranchi: As tax raids continue at the residence of Congress MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu and premises of companies linked to him for the eighth straight day, investigators are using geo-surveillance equipment to help find any buried cash or valuables, ThePrint has learnt.
According to sources in the income tax department, one team is at Sahu’s ancestral home in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district with geo-surveillance equipment, while another remains at his Ranchi residence.
Raids at Sahu’s residence and firms associated with him began on 6 December. Investigators have reportedly conducted searches at various liquor manufacturing units believed to be associated with Sahu’s firm Baldeo Sahu and Sons not only in Jharkhand but also in Odisha.
Cash and valuables worth over Rs 300 crore have reportedly been recovered so far, with sources telling ThePrint that there could be more recoveries in Lohardaga.
According to sources in Odisha’s excise department, Baldeo Sahu and Sons is a major manufacturer of country liquor in western Odisha, having control over 46 out of 64 manufacturing units in just one district — Balangir.
ThePrint reached senior officials of the income tax department in Delhi as well as Sahu for comment via calls and text messages but hadn’t received a response from either at the time of publishing this report. This report will be updated if and when a response is received.
