Itanagar, Oct 30 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly being involved in vehicle theft, and 20 stolen two-wheelers were recovered from various locations in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, police said here on Friday.

Itanagar Capital Region Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega said the man from Assam’s Lakhimpur district was apprehended on Thursday from Chaulmari village in the neighbouring state.

Based on inputs provided by him, the police recovered 20 stolen two-wheelers from various locations in the two states, the SP said.

The arrest and the recovery of stolen two-wheelers were made in connection with a probe into a scooter theft from Banderdewa market near here on September 28, Nega said.

Amid reports of multiple vehicle thefts in and around the Itanagar Capital Region, Naharlagun, a special investigation team was constituted, the SP said.

The accused was produced before a court in Yupia and remanded to police custody for further investigation, the officer said.

Efforts were underway to establish ownership of the recovered vehicles and ascertain whether other persons were involved in the thefts, the SP said.

“The SP has appealed to owners of stolen two-wheelers to contact Banderdewa police station with valid registration documents and copies of their complaints or FIRs for verification and identification,” the officer added. PTI CORR BDC
