Pithoragarh, Oct 4 (PTI) A 20-member Indian Army Kumaon Scouts team has completed a 55-km trek, involving both trekking and traversing, from Dharchula to the Nanda Devi Base Camp in Munsiyari, the Army said.
The 15-day expedition — from September 17 to October 2 — saw the team brave rugged mountain trails and adverse weather conditions in this part of the Himalayas, according to a press release issued here.
The expedition, covering mountainous terrain reaching altitudes of 18,300 feet, was undertaken in a remote and rugged border area along the India-China frontier, with a focus on adventure and community outreach.
The release said that, in addition to spreading the message of Himalayan environmental conservation to people living in remote areas, the team also assessed the local villagers’ medical and health-related issues and took responsibility for addressing them. PTI DPT SHS
