Meerut, Aug 2 (PTI) An illegal firearm supplier was held with 21 country-made pistols of .315 bore each and gun-making tools in his possession, a police officer said on Sunday.
Tajammul is allegedly a member of a gang involved in supplying illegal firearms across western Uttar Pradesh, the officer said.
He was nabbed in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the local police, he said.
According to STF Meerut Unit Additional Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Singh, Tajammul, a resident of the Delhi Gate Police Station area in Meerut, was arrested on Saturday night in the Lalkurti area.
Besides the firearms, he was found to have on him a hammer, hacksaw blades, files, welding rods, a welding machine, a vice, and a mobile phone.
The arrest was made on a tip-off that Tajammul would be coming to the area with a large consignment of illegal firearms.
According to his confession, Tajammul has been manufacturing firearms with his associates for the past five years and supplying them to districts in western Uttar Pradesh.
Each .315 bore country-made pistol was sold for Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000, he told investigators, the ASP said.
The officer said Tajammul was arrested in Muzaffarnagar in 2022 with 37 country-made pistols. PTI COR ABN VN VN
