Mumbai, May 5 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said advanced diagnostic facilities at the Tata Memorial Hospital will be strengthened with the installation of state-of-the-art automated tube labelling and barcoding (APTL) systems.

The project, implemented under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, has seen the successful installation of three advanced APTL systems at the premier cancer treatment and research centre, he said.

Fadnavis said the new systems will enable automated and accurate labelling and barcoding of samples, significantly reducing human errors. This, in turn, will improve the accuracy of diagnosis and enhance patient safety, while also making clinical workflows more efficient.

He noted that in serious diseases like cancer, accuracy in diagnosis and timely treatment are crucial. The APTL systems will help minimise issues such as sample handling confusion, delays and misidentification, ensuring doctors receive more reliable reports and enabling faster treatment decisions.

Describing the initiative as a step towards global standards in healthcare, the chief minister said the adoption of modern technology will align laboratory management with international best practices and improve overall service quality.

Fadnavis also thanked Indian Oil Corporation for supporting the initiative through CSR funding.

“Installation of these advanced APTL systems at Tata Memorial Hospital will enhance accuracy, transparency and speed in the diagnostic process.

Prioritising patient safety through effective use of modern technology is a matter of pride for Maharashtra. CSR investments in healthcare will play a vital role in delivering stronger and better-quality services in the future,” he said. PTI MR NP
