Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 24 (PTI) Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dinesh Sharma, has called for the implementation of a single-window booking system by January next year to boost tourism in the archipelago.

A decision in this regard was taken at a recent high-level review meeting on the functioning of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation Ltd (ANIIDCO) and the Tourism Department at Lok Niwas here, officials said.

During the meeting, Sharma emphasised the need to make tourism more convenient, accessible and visitor-friendly.

“Through this single-window booking system, tourists will be able to book all tourism-related services across the Islands, including entry permits, boat tickets, water sports and other activities,” a senior official said.

“The initiative would not only provide tourists with transparent and convenient services, but also directly benefit local water sports operators, boat operators and other stakeholders associated with the tourism sector,” he said.

The promotion of surfing in Little Andaman was also discussed at the meeting.

“The World Surfing League event has also been approved for March, 2027. More than 100 surfers from 27 countries are expected to participate, placing Little Andaman on the international surfing map,” the official said.

Blessed with pristine beaches, lush forests, vibrant coral reefs and water sports activities, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain a destination of choice for visitors from across the globe, he said. PTI SN RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
