New Delhi: The Indian football team’s goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh, took to Twitter Thursday to request people to stop confusing him with his namesake — former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh — who has been making headlines for a political turmoil in the poll-bound state.
Dear News Media, Journalists, I am Amrinder Singh, Goalkeeper of Indian Football Team ?? and not the Former Chief Minister of the State Punjab ?? Please stop tagging me.

Captain was quick to respond, empathising with the young athlete.
I empathise with you, my young friend. Good luck for your games ahead. https://t.co/MRy4aodJMx

Captain Amarinder Singh has been making headlines ever since he quit as the chief minister of Punjab earlier this month, amid his tussle with fellow Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, leading to a crisis in the state unit.
Days after his resignation, Sidhu, who was appointed the Punjab Congress chief in July, resigned from the post as well.
The back-to-back resignations in Punjab Congress come just months ahead of the assembly polls.
Who is Amrinder Singh
According to the official website of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL), Amrinder Singh played for Pune FC’s youth team, before graduating to their senior team, after which he played in the ATK FC for Hero ISL 2015. He has since played for Bangalore FC, and Mumbai City FC. He joined the ATK Mohun Bagan in May 2021.
The 28-year-old footballer was left out of the squad for the SAFF Championships, set to begin in the Maldives on 1 October, after he tested positive for Covid-19. He was replaced by Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem.
