Prayagraj (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the case in which an ASI survey of the Gyanvapi mosque’s wazukhana area, excluding the structure described by the Hindu side as a Shivling and the Muslim side as a fountain, has been sought.

Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal fixed November, 30 to hear the case when it was brought to the notice of the court that the matter is engaging the attention of the Supreme Court and the next date fixed in the apex court is November 17.

In view of the said fact, the court deferred the proceedings of this case and directed to list it on November 30 along with connected matters for the next hearing.

It is to recall that it is a matter seeking survey by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of the Wazukhana (ablution pond) area except for the Shivling inside the Gyanvapi mosque.

The order was passed in a Civil Revision filed by Rakhi Singh, one of the plaintiffs before the Varanasi court.

The revision has been filed challenging the Varanasi District Judge’s order dated October 21, 2023 refusing to direct the ASI to undertake a survey of the wazukhana area except the Shivling inside the Gyanvapi mosque. PTI COR RAJ KSS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
