Ayodhya (UP), Oct 3 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav will on October 8 attend a religious congregation being organised here by senior party leader and former Ayodhya MLA Tej Narayan Pandey.

Yadav is scheduled to remain at the religious gathering for around 2 hours and will likely address devotees.

Pandey, who is also the party’s Ayodhya candidate for the Assembly elections scheduled next year, has been organising the eight-day Shrimad Bhagwat Katha since Friday.

He said that the final day of the programme, when Yadav would attend on his invitation, is expected to draw a huge number of devotees from across the state and beyond.

“Devotees of Shri Krishna from across the state and the country will come to listen to the final discourses on Lord Krishna and participate in the feast,” Pandey said.

He said arrangements for devotees have been made over more than 10 bighas of land and a feast is expected to continue for around 24 hours.

The event comes ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled next year.

Yadav’s participation in the religious congregation in Ayodhya assumes significance as the Ram temple falls in the same constituency. The Samajwadi Party had previously raised allegations against handling of donations received for the construction of the Ram temple and related activities, while the BJP had rejected them. Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
