Gorakhpur, Oct 30 (PTI) AIIMS Gorakhpur on Friday said nearly 70 per cent of the work to operationalise its Cath Lab had been completed, days after its executive director was shifted to a private hospital for cardiac evaluation as the facility is yet to become functional.
Major General (retd) Vibha Dutta developed health complications on Wednesday and was initially taken to the emergency department of AIIMS Gorakhpur, where she received treatment and her condition stabilised.
She was subsequently shifted to a private hospital equipped with a Cath Lab around 5 pm as a precautionary measure to ascertain whether she required a pacemaker. The procedure was ultimately found unnecessary, and she returned home by 8 pm.
A senior doctor at AIIMS, speaking on condition of anonymity on Friday, said all initial treatment was provided at the institute and Dutta’s condition had stabilised before she was shifted to the private hospital for further precautionary evaluation.
He said the Cath Lab at AIIMS Gorakhpur is expected to become operational by December, hopefully, and confirmed that the executive director is now healthy.
The institute issued a statement in response to recent news reports about the non-availability of Cath Lab facilities, saying significant progress had been made towards establishing and operationalising the services.
“Nearly 70 per cent of the work related to the initiation of Cath Lab services has already been completed, and the necessary medical equipment and machinery are in the process of delivery and are expected to arrive very soon,” it said.
The institute said it was working to complete the remaining requirements to make the advanced cardiac care facility operational at the earliest.
The establishment of Cath Lab services would mark a significant milestone in strengthening the institute’s cardiac care infrastructure, it added.
Once operational, the facility would benefit patients from Gorakhpur and other districts of Uttar Pradesh, as well as neighbouring states, by providing access to advanced cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures, including angiography and angioplasty, closer to their homes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for AIIMS Gorakhpur on July 22, 2016, under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
The project received a major boost in 2017 after Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, with construction-related hurdles being swiftly resolved.
The institute’s Out Patient Department (OPD) was inaugurated by Modi on February 24, 2019, ahead of the inauguration of the full-fledged institution on December 7, 2021. PTI COR NAV NB
