New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Thursday continued its indefinite sit-in at Jawaharlal Nehru University for the second day, demanding improved medical facilities, specialist doctors and better treatment for students at the varsity’s health centre.

The student organisation alleged that the health centre lacks essential medical equipment and specialist doctors and claimed that patients have faced insensitive treatment.

The protesters demanded that necessary medical equipment be made available immediately, adequate arrangements for specialist doctors be made and students and staff be provided timely and dignified treatment.

The ABVP also alleged that some students who visited the health centre were manhandled and abused, claiming that three of its activists were injured.

The organisation said the protest was not limited to a single incident but was aimed at seeking improvements in the overall healthcare system at the university.

JNU ABVP president Mayank Panchal said the administration had not yet come up with a concrete solution to the students’ demands despite the protest entering its second day.

“Students should not face any kind of trouble in a basic facility like a health centre,” Panchal said, according to the statement.

JNU ABVP minister Praveen Kumar Piyush said the organisation was seeking accountability over the alleged injuries and improvements in health centre facilities.

The ABVP demanded action against those responsible for the alleged incident involving the injured activists and called for immediate improvement in the health centre’s arrangements.

The student organisation said it would continue the agitation until its demands concerning healthcare facilities and the dignity of students are addressed. PTI AHD AHD SKY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
