Hyderabad, Oct 1 (PTI) Telangana CEO C Sudharshan Reddy on Thursday said that about 54 lakh of the 92 lakh voters issued notices during the SIR process had been included in the electoral rolls.

“Out of 92 lakh, nearly 54 lakh have been brought under the main electoral roll. This process will continue till November 5. The collection of documents from the remaining nearly 40 lakh will be completed, and they will be brought into the main roll, except those who have migrated or died. Such people may not enter the main roll,” the chief electoral officer told reporters here.

On August 17, election officials said about 92 lakh voters would be issued notices over anomalies in their electoral records or the failure to link their details with the 2002 rolls during the ongoing SIR.

Following the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 17 as part of the Special Intensive Revision, the process of issuing notices and disposing of claims and objections is being conducted from August 17 to November 5.

Reddy said that in cases where a notice has been generated for an elector, the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) has to visit the elector’s home, collect the required documents and upload them on ECI Net for a decision by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).

Such electors need not be called to the ERO/AERO’s office for a hearing, he said.

Only in exceptional circumstances, as decided by the ERO/AERO, will a hearing be held, preferably online through available and convenient modes of communication. The software for conducting such hearings has been updated and enabled, he said.

Any adult family member can be authorised by the elector to attend the hearing on their behalf, if required, he added. PTI SJR SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
