The Uttar Pradesh Police have installed 12,200 cameras at 4,200 locations across Sambhal district under its recently started Operation Trinetra. The cameras were installed with the help of locals and connected existing ones to the police database.
The purpose of installing these cameras is that the police can use them for traffic and other policing objectives. Operation Trinetra was started on 10 July last year.
According to an official statement by the state police, the installation of cameras in all 75 districts of the state helped solve “1,355 criminal cases”.
News agency ANI quoted DGP Vijay Kumar as saying that the state police have installed 3,50,000 cameras across the state as part of Operation Trinetra.
“If a crime gets recorded in the camera then it becomes easier to catch hold of the criminals. Several cases were solved within 24-36 hours because the event was captured by the cameras and the police could catch hold of the criminal,” he was quoted as saying.
