New Delhi: A 13-second clip showing people raising slogans of “Bhupesh Baghel zindabad” during a rally of BJP MP Tejasvi Surya was shared by the Chhattisgarh Congress on Twitter Friday.

The clip was sourced from another Twitter handle named @rpsinghraipur that claimed to belong to R. P. Singh, spokesperson of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee. The video was retweeted nearly 400 times, including by former RJD MP Shailesh Kumar.

Many supporters of the Chhattisgarh CM said he was the “king” of the state who “reigns in everyone’s heart” and the video will teach “Surya ji” how popular Baghel was “among the youth.”

Some also evoked BJP Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga’s name, saying the video will be “enjoyed most by him” in response to Chhattisgarh INC asking its followers to “enjoy it”.

Fact check

The clip, however, was found to be edited and different from Surya’s original speech that was delivered at his ‘halla bol’ demonstration in Raipur recently.

The original speech, which is over five minute-long, was recorded and posted by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BYJM)’s official Twitter account. There was no mention of “zindabad” in the video but “jai shree Ram” and “bharat mata ki jai ” slogans were raised at the protest site.

Some social media users were quick to point out that the video shared by the Chhattisgarh Congress was “doctored” and commented on the “shoddiness” of its editing.
