New Delhi: With Israel and Hamas taking to open warfare yet again, there has been a dramatic escalation of tensions between Israel and Palestine since last week. And amid the claims and counter-claims over the actions by both sides, social media is also abuzz with text and video posts reacting to the ongoing violence.
One such video being shared on Twitter and Facebook in India purportedly shows “dead bodies” covered in white cloth, with the captions claiming that Palestinians in Gaza are staging deaths to “discredit Israel”.
With the video showing “moving bodies” under the white sheet, the posts in Hindi claim it exposes the people who couldn’t stay “dead” when “ants crawled over their bodies” and forced them to move.
Twitter user Anil Tiwari’s post on Friday has been retweeted over 3,800 times so far and liked by nearly 5,000 users. It was also quoted-tweeted by 244 users.

A YouTube post from 2013 shows the video is actually of a demonstration by students of Al Azhar University Cairo, Egypt.
A big group of Muslim students at Al-Azhar University had held a mass demonstration in front of the college administration building, while others marched towards the College of Medicine and Engineering.
The year 2013 saw widespread protests in Egypt before and after the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.
In November that year, students had clashed with security forces while demonstrating against new restrictions on the right to protest adopted by the military-backed interim government that had ousted a democratically-elected Morsi in July that year.
The video being shared now is from that protest dating back to 2013, and not of “Palestinians staging death after Israel attack”, as claimed by social media users in India on Twitter and Facebook.
