Muslims in viral video were not protesting against RSS, Bajrang Dal on Bhopal streets

The clip is of a protest that took place in Surat on 5 July against the lynching of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand.

New Delhi: An old video of a mob has been doing the rounds on Twitter, wrongly claiming that a group of Muslims were protesting against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bajrang Dal on the streets of Bhopal.

The clip shows a group turning violent and destroying some buses kept nearby. Police officers and even a few from the crowd can be seen trying to calm the situation.

This old video has been shared by one Thakur Prashant Kumar — who identifies himself as “an aspiring Army person one day” — and has garnered over 7,000 views, 1,500 likes and more than 1,300 retweets. The user has also tagged the additional directorate general of public information, Indian Army.

“There is still time to wake up or the end is near. Muslims are doing this throughout India and this video should be an eyeopener for the Hindus,” wrote Kumar, while sharing the video.

He also tagged actress Payal Rohtagi and the RSS’ official handle in the post. The video has also been shared on other social platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.

Fact check

This video is of a protest that took place in Surat on 5 July against the lynching of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand. A closer look at the clip reveals the name “sitilink” which stands for Surat Bus Rapid Transit System written on the buses that were destroyed.

Sitilink is a transportation venture of the municipal corporation of Surat which comes under the purview of Smart City Project. The clip is of a protest at the Swami Vivekananda Circle in Nanpura area of the city. The protest had turned violent when a huge number of people took part in it.
