New Delhi: A two-year-old video has been doing the rounds on social media to wrongly claim that unarmed Kashmiris are being killed by Indian security forces.
The video, shared from the page of a Pakistani man Muhammad Shoaib Ahmad on 9 August, has a caption that says: “Look at the dead bodies. 30 dead bodies of unarmed kashmiris were killed today. The nation still silent straight straight fire…May Allah destroy India and its slated army (sic).”
At the time of writing this report, the video had more than 2,000 shares and 42,000 views. Ahmad’s page has over 6,000 likes and more than 7,000 followers.
The video has also been shared on Twitter. “These are Indian police and Indian army troops those are killing people of Kashmir like a hunter,” says the post accompanying the video.
The video comes amid tension in Kashmir after the government stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status granted under Article 370, and bifurcated it into two union territories.

Fact check
The video was shot during a mock drill conducted by Khunti police in Jharkhand in 2017.
In the video, some police personnel can be seen mock-firing at a crowd, after which other policemen rush to the spot and help the ‘injured’ persons by placing them on a stretcher followed by an ambulance being brought in. A siren can be heard playing in the background towards the end.
The same video was circulated last year too to claim that policemen had fired at farmers protesting in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. The video was shared during the farmers’ protest in Madhya Pradesh in June-July last year.
