New Delhi: A video showing a BJP leader being beaten up was peddled online this week as a testament to people’s “frustration” with the NDA government as it completed four years in office.

However, the viral video, which notched 20,000 retweets and 1,000 likes, is from October 2017, when West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh was manhandled by miscreants in Darjeeling town in the aftermath of the 104-day standoff over the demand for Gorkhaland.

Here is the original video of the attack:

Even so, on 26 May, the NDA government’s fourth anniversary, RTI activist and Aam Aadmi Party member Amit Mishra posted the video on Twitter with the message, “Modi government has completed four years, but people are retaliating against the local BJP leaders for what they got from the government in four years. This is what they did to them when a BJP leader reached in this locality.”

Mishra heads AAP’s citizen interaction team. Among those who retweeted the video was Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
