New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has used a portion of a video to claim that Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had instructed BJP workers to confuse the public so much that they don’t ask relevant questions.

However, the original video shows Raje, a BJP chief minister, used these words to criticise the opposition Congress.

Surjewala made this claim while speaking at an event organised by Hindi news channel Aaj Tak in Jaipur Thursday.

He later tweeted: “Vasundhara ji has asked her workers to confuse the general public so much that they don’t ask why no roads have been built, why there is no water, why there are no jobs, why people are being lynched, why farmers are feeling helpless.

“Thus people will be left utterly confused. If the state chief minister is saying this, then she has accepted defeat,” read the tweet that was retweeted by 535 users.

Rajasthan, where campaigning is underway for the assembly elections, will vote on 7 December.

However, the original video was shot at a BJP event — ‘Yuva Rin Baat Amit Shah Ke Sath’ — held in Rajasthan on 21 November, in which Raje highlighted the Congress government’s failure to alleviate poverty in the county.

In the original video, she can be heard saying, “Congress government who gave the slogan of gareebi hatao (remove poverty), did nothing about it. And if you ask the reasons they say ‘Do not alleviate poverty. More poverty, means more benefits and more votes for us and people won’t be able to find time to ask questions such as why they don’t have jobs, why they don’t have access to water, why roads are not built…”

In response to Surjewala’s tweet, the official Twitter handle of the Rajasthan BJP has posted a video, captioned, “Congress is a liar” that fetched 279 retweets.

The party has also posted the video on Facebook which was shared by more than 400 users.
