New Delhi: Several BJP leaders have hit out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister Kailash Gahlot for violating Covid-19 protocols, after two photographs of him addressing civil defence volunteers went viral Sunday.

The photographs have been circulated with the claim that the volunteers were neither wearing masks nor maintaining social distancing

The head of the media department of BJP’s Delhi unit, Naveen Kumar, tweeted the photos saying: “At least ask the civil defence volunteers to put masks on their faces. You have taken Covid-19 lightly. Neither are the children wearing a mask nor are they following the norm of social distancing. Is the Rs 2000 fine only to harass the general public?”

Richa Pandey Mishra, spokesperson of the BJP’s Delhi unit, retweeted Kumar’s post.

Khemchand Sharma, also a spokesperson for Delhi BJP, tweeted the images and reminded the Delhi Police that a fine of Rs 2,000 wasn’t only for the general public.

The photos were also shared by Barkha Shukla Singh, former president of Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress and now a vice-president with the BJP’s Delhi unit.

“Delhi AAP minister flouting all norms of COVID 19 while giving speech to self defence volunteers, no one can be seen wearing masks, no social distancing, the capacity of the hall is full! Request Delhi police to take strict action against this!,” Singh tweeted.

The same images were also shared by users on Facebook.

The images that are being circulated now are from last year, much before the pandemic began. Gahlot had tweeted the two photos himself on 28 October 2019.

“Historic Day for Delhi. With Hon’ble CM @ArvindKejriwal inaugurated the Training & Orientation of Newly Inducted Bus Marshals in DTC & Cluster Buses & announced for Free Travel for Women in buses from 29.10.19. This is the first of its kind model of Bus Marshals in the world,” Gahlot had written while sharing the photos.
