New Delhi: With 4,22,943 active cases of Covid-19, India has recorded a total of 95,34,964 cases so far. According to data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 1,38,648 people have died and 89,73,373 recovered.
In ThePrint’s daily States Tracker, we take a look at the data on testing and the rate at which the infection is spreading throughout India.
For this analysis, we use three parameters:
Rt value, known as reproduction number, is indicative of the number of new cases that are expected to emerge from a single case. An R value of less than 1 suggests that the rate of infection is slow since an infected patient will only infect less than one person.
Positivity rate is the percentage of people who are found to be infected by the virus from those who are being tested. This parameter indicates how widespread the disease is.
Daily tests per million give insight into the amount of testing being conducted in relation to the population of the area.

Rt value
India’s average Rt value stood at 0.91 Thursday, after recording an Rt value of more than 1 last week.
At 0.60, Nagaland recorded the lowest Rt value in India. This was followed by Arunachal Pradesh at 0.63, Mizoram at 0.67, Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 0.72 and Karnataka at 0.76.
Ladakh and Goa recorded the highest Rt value of 1.11. This was followed by Bihar at 1.08, Assam at 1.06, Kerala at 1.02 and Gujarat at 1.01.
In all, five states and 1 union territory recorded an Rt value of more than 1.
Positivity rate
India’s positivity rate stood at 3.58 per cent Thursday.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands recorded the lowest positivity rate, at 0.45 per cent. This was followed by Bihar at 0.47 per cent, Jharkhand at 0.52 per cent, Assam at 0.72 per cent and Uttar Pradesh at 1.22 per cent.
Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest positivity rate in India at 14.33 per cent. This was followed by Sikkim at 14.21 per cent, Kerala at 10.10 per cent, Nagaland at 9.19 per cent and Rajasthan at 8.71 per cent.
Daily tests per million
India’s average daily tests per million stood at 799.
The lowest daily tests per million were recorded in Nagaland at 158. This was followed by Madhya Pradesh at 349, Jharkhand at 389 and West Bengal at 427.
Ladakh recorded the highest daily tests per million at 4,425. This was followed by Delhi at 4,219, Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 4,054, Puducherry at 2,427.
