Two constables suspended after one of them allegedly opened fire at 38-year-old Vivek Tiwari; victim’s wife writes to CM seeking fair probe.
Lucknow: A 38-year-old Apple Store manager was allegedly shot dead by a police constable on patrol duty following an altercation in the upscale Gomti Nagar area early Saturday morning, police said.
The victim, Vivek Tiwari, was reportedly sitting in his car with a woman colleague when two UP police constables who were on patrol duty asked them why they were there. The two reportedly had an altercation and Vivek started the car to leave. The police constables reportedly tried to stop them but he did not listen to them.
Constable Prashant Chaudhary alleged that Vivek tried to run over the policemen and he fired in self defence.

Vivek’s wife has written a letter to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, demanding a fair inquiry into the incident.
UP director general of police O.P. Singh has suspended the two policemen and a case of murder has been registered in the matter. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered.
The woman alleged that the constables asked Vivek Tiwari to slow down his car. When he did not, as the area was deserted, the constables started chasing. She alleged that in the chase, the car hit the bike, following which the one of the constable opened fire.

She further alleged that the policemen fled the scene after opening fire. She said no one was ready to take Vivek to the hospital and she had to ask for a phone from a truck driver and called an ambulance.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said a CBI inquiry will be recommended if needed. He said this was not an encounter. The guilty will not be spared and if needed a CBI inquiry will be held, he told reporters in Gorakhpur.

U.P. Police has genes of indiscipline in them. They are fundamentally hostile and unruly. Many years ago, perhaps 40 odd years ago, there was a full fledged mutiny in U.P. Police. Now they are feeling additionally bold because they have easy access to small or big functionaries of BJP who ALL believe they are part of the government. CM Adityanath, if he really wants the common man to feel safe in his state, will have to order his party’s cadre to stop associating with policemen so the seniors of that department can directly command and control them.
Our sympathies and condolences to Smt Tewari and her family. Because they are educated, well off, aware of their rights, the police are not trying to create a false construct, are rightly treating this as a case of murder. How many poor Muslims and Dalits have been “ encountered “ in Uttar Pradesh since Shri Ajay Kumar Bisht ( I think we should stop calling the holder of a high constitutional office “ Yogi Adityanath “ ) took over as CM. The buck stops at his table. Far too many of them for comfort. UP has not seen such dark days.
