New Delhi: Journalist Reham Khan on Friday tied the knot with Pakistani news anchor Mirza Bilal, a self-proclaimed real-life version of fictional dimwitted supermodel, Derek Zoolander. Reham, who divorced former Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2015, expressed gratitude on Twitter saying she has “finally found a man she can trust” .

She shared a picture of herself with Bilal posing in front of a fireplace. Her tweet garnered over a million views, 11,000 likes and an outpouring of congratulatory messages.

Reham further revealed in an Instagram post that they married in a “simple” nikkah ceremony in Seattle, with Bilal “refusing to wear gold as per Muslim tradition”.

Born in Libya to a family hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hazara region, Reham Khan’s first marriage was with Ejazur Rahman, a UK citizen, when she was only 19 years old in 1992. The marriage ended in 2005 after Rahman cited domestic violence. She became a broadcast journalist at the BBC in 2006.

Reham married cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan in January 2015, reportedly in secret, but they divorced just nine months later. Reham Khan has since worked as an activist for underprivileged people and as a journalist in Pakistani media.

Who is Mirza Bilal?

While Reham Khan’s life and career has been well-documented and reported on in recent years, the background and level of fame of her new husband, 36-year-old Mirza Bilal, are less so.

A Pakistani television presenter, satirist and model based out of Seattle and New York City, Bilal humorously compares himself on his Twitter bio to Derek Zoolander, played by Hollywood actor Ben Stiller in two comedy films released in 2001 and 2016.

Bilal previously appeared on the comedic Urdu-language news programme “4 Man Show” and “Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar”. Earlier this year, he has uploaded topical comedy videos about Imran Khan’s political rallies and corruption scandals, as well as under-fire Pakistan men’s cricket captain Babar Azam.
