They started protesting against police when they were denied permission to leave their camp without being accompanied by security. According to the officers, they then supposedly cut the power supply to the police camp on the premises the next day.

Many Chinese citizens have been working in Pakistan on various CPEC projects.

On Wednesday, the Chinese workers abandoned the heavy machinery and vehicles at the construction site and went on a strike in protest. The workers also wrote a letter to Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, claiming that the police officers displayed violent behaviour towards them. Police, however, denied the claim and suggested that some of the Chinese workers be deported.
