New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and actor Trisha’s relationship is back in conversation after the recent events. On 22 June, the actor posted a picture from the CM’s birthday celebrations. The couple was smiling ear to ear.

This birthday photo has dispelled rumours about their separation. “To the person who makes it all worthy. HBD,” Trisha wrote as a caption. Just a day before, Trisha had unfollowed Vijay on Instagram.

Fans of the couple were overjoyed and busy decoding everything about the latest picture. The cake piqued as much curiosity. One user speculated that there were five cakes in the picture because Vijay and Trisha had been together (allegedly) for five years. The tiramisu cake was traced back to its origin in Hyderabad—Patisserie Concu cafe. The mango vanilla cake was soon reported as a creation of a Chennai-based baker named Tanvi Bokaria. And the strawberry white chocolate cake was also from Chennai, The Chef House. This was all found out by fans without even a single hint left by Trisha.

Social media was flooded with people reacting to the picture, the alleged affair, and the cakes.

“First in my bloodline to witness an open affair of oldies,” a user wrote.

“As Socrates once said, ‘Never let your wife stop you from finding your soulmate,'” another user wrote.

“First in my bloodline to witness an open affair of a CM,” another user commented.

Tamil Nadu’s famous pair

As one fan suggested that the five cakes symbolised five years of their relationship, the discussion around their alleged affair intensified as the Tamil Nadu election approached and Vijay became Chief Minister Vijay Joseph. Throughout the process, Trisha was seen supporting him and was spotted at Vijay’s residence when the election results were announced. It was also Trisha’s birthday.

The duo has shared the screen in several hit films over the past two decades. They first starred together in Ghilli (2004), where Vijay plays a kabaddi player who rescues Trisha’s character from a forced marriage. They reunited in Thirupaachi (2005), which featured a softer romantic track but with an action-packed story, followed by Aathi (2006), where both are driven by revenge after losing their loved ones. Their on-screen chemistry struck a chord with audiences, leading to further collaborations in Kuruvi (2008), Leo (2023), and The Greatest of All Time  (2024), making them one of Tamil cinema’s most popular on-screen pairs.

Sangeetha Sornalingam, Vijay’s wife, filed a divorce petition in February. She referred to the early years of their marriage as “cordial and harmonious” and said that after living together for two decades, she discovered Vijay was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress, causing her “deep emotional pain and mental suffering amounting to betrayal and violation of marital status.” She described the marriage as “irretrievably broken” and surviving only on paper.
