New Delhi: King Khan entered the cricket field back in 2008 with his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Now, nearly two decades later, Shah Rukh Khan is taking the sport to Los Angeles with the Knight Riders Cricket Ground.
In an X post on Thursday, SRK shared visuals of the new venue in Pomona, LA County, calling it a dream turned into reality. In the video, he speaks of bringing the “second-most watched sport in the world” to Los Angeles. The venue reportedly cost US$ 21 million to construct.
“Welcoming you all to the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, LA. A place built not just for sports but also entertainment and for families… and memories that last forever,” he wrote in the accompanying caption.
He also thanked ICC chairman Jay Shah, referring to him as “Jaybhai”, for being “too kind through this journey”, and ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta for being supportive.
What started as a dream… turns into reality today.
Welcoming you all to the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, LA.

“This is for LA, for cricket fans across the globe, and for the Knight Riders family. Believe in Purple and Gold,” the caption added.
A separate video shared by the Los Angeles Knight Riders X account showed an inaugural puja, with pandits in saffron robes and coconuts being offered on the ground.

The new venue is another step in Shah Rukh Khan’s vision of taking the Knight Riders brand beyond the IPL. What started with Kolkata Knight Riders has now grown into a global cricket network, with franchises such as Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the UAE’s ILT20, and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) in Major League Cricket.
The LAKR team has players such as wicketkeeper-batter Andre Fletcher, captain Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Karthik Gattepalli, Ali Khan, Colin Munro, Rovman Powell, Matthew Tromp, and Shadley van Schalkwyk. The team competes in Major League Cricket, and its first home match at the new ground was against Washington Freedom.
The ground will not only host MLC matches but also cricket during the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. It will mark cricket’s return to the Olympics after 128 years, since its last appearance at the 1900 Paris Games.
The venue has opened with a capacity of 5,000 seats. Reports say it is expected to enter an expansion phase by 2027, increasing seating capacity to 12,000 before reaching 15,000 seats by 2028.
