New Delhi: Veteran fashion editor Nonita Kalra has joined Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd as Chief Creative Officer for Luxury, Fashion and Lifestyle, after serving as Editor-in-Chief of Tata CLiQ Luxury for more than five years.

BCCL announced Kalra’s appointment on 4 August. A day earlier, in an Instagram post, she had shared the good news and also updated her LinkedIn profile.

Kalra will be managing the company’s creative direction for the specified verticals. She will oversee editorial initiatives and create content-led-properties for brands, including The Times of India, Times Internet Media Services, Optimal Media Solutions, 1838 and associated platforms.

Her work will also include the development of events, awards, festivals, exhibitions and other consumer-facing initiatives across print, digital and experiential platforms. According to a press release, Kalra will be collaborating with various institutions as well as executing the creativity of the luxury brand.

With over thirty years of experience in fashion journalism, luxury publishing and lifestyle media, Kalra first started her journey at India Today. She then headed to The Independent, Businessworld and The Indian Express.

Kalra holds a Bachelor’s in History from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. She was Editor-in-Chief of ELLE India from June 2000 to December 2012. Following a stint as an independent fashion consultant, she was appointed as Editor of Harper’s Bazaar India in March 2016, leading that title for over four years, before joining Tata CLiQ Luxury as Editor-in-Chief in February 2021.

Her appointment comes at a time when media companies are extending their luxury and lifestyle businesses beyond print and digital, with a sharper eye on branded events, creator collaborations and premium consumer experiences.

BCCL has stated that Kalra will be working across the company’s editorial, commercial and experiential businesses.

For over three decades, Kalra has held top editorial positions at various publications in India’s fashion and lifestyle space, overseeing launches and luxury initiatives. Her appointment is the newest senior leadership appointment in one of the media and publishing companies in India amidst all its efforts to bolster the premium content businesses.
