New Delhi: Elon Musk is in a giving mood. Over the past few days, he has announced a plan to give a SpaceX share to every child in America. Meanwhile, newly disclosed filings show he has donated more than $276 million to Republican political groups since July, making him the biggest known donor of the 2026 midterm election cycle.

Musk’s political donations are far higher than those of most individual donors. His plan to give every child in America a SpaceX share could be worth an estimated $10.5 billion.

However, not all the money he has announced has been given. Some are pledges, some are prize money, while others have gone to organisations closely linked to his businesses.

SpaceX share for every American child

Musk said on 19 October that he would give one of his SpaceX shares to every kid in America next year, calling it “the first of many.”  The plan would cover about 72 million children and is estimated to be worth $10.5 billion, based on SpaceX’s reported share price.

$158 million to Senate Republicans

Musk donated $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main Republican super PAC focused on Senate elections. Much of the money was directed toward supporting Texas Republican Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign.

More than $76 million to America PAC

Musk also gave more than $76 million to America PAC, the political committee he founded in 2024. The PAC is running voter-turnout operations in competitive Senate and House races. As its founder and biggest financial supporter, Musk plays a major role in funding its political activities.

$20 million to House Republicans

Musk donated $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, the leading super PAC supporting Republican candidates for the House of Representatives. The money will support Republican efforts to defend their majority in the House during the midterm elections.

$10 million to Ken Paxton’s Texas campaign

Musk gave $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC, which supports Paxton’s campaign for the US Senate in Texas. Musk lives near SpaceX’s Starbase facility in South Texas, adding a personal and business connection to his political spending in the state.

$10 million to Republican governors

Musk donated $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, which supports Republican candidates running for governor across the US.

$2 million to Republican attorneys general

Musk gave $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association, which supports Republican candidates for state attorney general offices. These officials can play an important role in legal challenges to federal policies, making the association another part of Musk’s political giving.

$500,000 to Greg Abbott

Earlier in 2026, Musk donated $500,000 to Texans for Governor Greg Abbott, according to Texas campaign-finance filings. The contribution was made during the first six months of the year and adds to his financial support for Republican politicians in Texas.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
